My story is about Sandy Dickey. It was during the summer reading program. She was having her water show. It was on the side of the library. The show was about over and the man turned his hose on her and she was soaking wet with regular clothes on. The kids loved it and she screamed and clapped for more. She was really surprised to say the least.

Growing up, the library was a magical place for me. I dreamed of being like the character Matilda and had hopes of reading every book that the library had to offer. I never did achieve that goal, but perhaps my book-loving children will accomplish that for me.

Our library is so much more than books, though. It is an integral part of our family, our lives, and the community. The library offers incredible opportunities to be immersed in other cultures, historic time periods, learn new skills, and appreciate topics of interest through music, art, or even food. You get the full experience of learning through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and of course a book or two. If there is a resource you are looking for, there is a great chance that the library has it or knows where to acquire it. They even have a seed library! More than anything, the library is just so much fun!!

We would be so lost without our library and its wonderful people. THey have become a part of our family and we look forward to seeing them multiple times a week. Than you for being amazing and for all the wonderful memories!

This isn’t really a story, it’s more of a tradition!

My 5 year old absolutely loves going to the library and attending Ms. Sarah’s programs. Just about every time we leave one, she asks to get a picture of her standing outside on the slanted brick part of the building, often holding the day’s craft!

Thanks to this, we have over a year’s worth of these to see how much she’s grown throughout her visits to the library!

My favorite story about the library is a story about the craft room because I like crafts so much that is why I like the craft room. My favorite craft was the rainmaker that we did with Miss Sarah.

I love the Batesville Library! It’s a beautiful building filled with the latest books and all sorts of resources. But, I also have fond memories of running up the steep, long stairway of the original library location in the Memorial Building. As a child who loved to read, I remember getting to choose my own books and can recall exactly where to look for my favorite Nancy Drew books in those tall wood bookcases. We had a library card, but we knew our card number by heart (it was 2298) and Miss Hazel would stamp the book before we raced back down the steps ready to go home and enjoy those books before 2 weeks went by and we got to go again. Thanks, Batesville Library for the books I enjoyed then and again now!

My favorite library story: I have 3 grandchildren. My 1st is Rylee, she is now 12 but we have so many GREAT memories that took place here at the Batesville Library. I brought her every week from age 3 to 5 years to Storytime. We loved spending the day here every week. Sometimes we would make crafts, we went to a minion bingo here, and also entered a contest to make something to describe a book we read. We made an Easter Bunny cake because it was close to Easter and I read her an Easter story. She won 1st place. I also brought her to a pirate dress-up one evening and a fun day outside where this library had lots of fun activities outside to do. Now my grandson Chase, age 8, and granddaughter Harper, age 6, enjoy coming here and playing grocery store and learning games on the computers. Mrs. Dickey was always a big part of so many happy times we have shared with each other here. Thank you, Mrs. Dickey and all the library helpers. We appreciate you all.

My favorite library story from this library is the first day I had an off-block at school, I came in here and asked for a meeting room to do home work. There was one available, so my friend and I went in there and watch Looney Tunes and did homework. It has now turned into almost a tradition for us to do on our off-blocks from school.

I enjoyed the Halloween party. I won a Bengals lanyard and play with it all the time at home.

Ever since I can remember I have loved reading. I lived in Phoenix, Arizona when I was younger and my grandmother taught me how to read and she would always take me to the library with her. When my family moved back to Batesville I would always visit the library and check out books and moves. Fun fact: I met my husband in high school when he worked at the Batesville library as a page and I was a regular visitor. When I went to college I worked in the Special Collections department of the University library, which happened to be my first library job. I enjoyed working in the library so much that I decided to get a Masters in Library Science. After moving home from college and having my 2 children, I started working at the Batesville library as the Teen Librarian. I worked there for 2 years and then I was hired as the Director of the Tyson Library in Versailles Indiana and have been there for the last 5 years. My family and I are frequent visitors to the Batesville library and we even visit the Tyson Library when I’m not working. I’m thankful that my children also love to read and want to visit the library for programs and to see what is new at the library.
