Join Miss Sarah at Liberty Park on the grass by the playground to spend 30 minutes reading, singing, and dancing together! NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED. This program is geared toward children ages 3 - 6. June 4th we will be discussing Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit, the book we read in May. Participants will also receive the next book we will be reading for June which is The Bark of the Bog Owl by Jonathan Rogers. The Bark of the Bog Owl summary from Amazon.com: Courage and a heart for adventure drive twelve-year-old shepherd boy Aidan Errolson. When the bark of the bog owl echoes from the forest across his father's well-tended pastures, Aidan dreams of wild places still untamed and quests not yet pursued. Participants will read the book for that month and discuss it the following month. There will be a craft or activity to go along with the book. This book club is for grades 3rd - 8th. To go along with the summer reading theme of Adventure - - we are taking an adventure into a new style of felting. This month, we will try our hand at wet felting and create a basket. Felting is one of the oldest forms of textile arts. Needle felting is begun by rolling a small amount of wool and stabbing it with the needle. It is a quick hobby to learn, and many find it stress-relieving. This adult group meets on the first Thursday afternoon of each month to make a project. Please join us for this NO cost program. Join us as we take a virtual mini tour of native Indiana habitats, review a few invasive plants, learn why they are invasive and how to manage them, and then complete our time together with a look at some native plants we can use to create living landscapes to boldly celebrate our beautiful state. Dawn Slack, Project Coordinator of the Indiana Invasives Initiative will lead this program highlighting ways to combat invasive plants and raise awareness of the devastation being caused by these non-native pests. According to Dawn, “We will not begin to make much headway until the problem is addressed at the local level by local people using local resources”. Welcome to Little Sprouts Garden Club. This program is for AGES 3 - 6 year olds. This club will meet once a month and talk about all things garden with your little ones. Join us each month as we go from starting seeds to picking our produce in our BMPL garden. This is a hands on program for littles with crafts in between. EACH MONTH you will need to REGISTER your child(ren) for this program. Please fill out the registration form below for each child you would like to register. Join us as we go on the Batesville Area Arts Council’s Art Walk! This activity requires walking. We will meet at the library before walking around the downtown area and returning to the library. Join us for an unforgettable evening of smooth tunes, infectious rhythms, and soulful melodies. Emily Ann Thompson's rich sound, energetic style, & passionate playing has made her an audience favorite. Being a performer of many styles (Celtic, classical, rock, & other world music), her diverse musical background comes out in her fresh and unique solos. Her main jazz influences include Stephane Grappelli, John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, Mark O’Connor, and Sarah Caswell, the latter two with whom she has studied. BMPL's Parking Lot is DORA approved. A Novel Idea is BMPL's book club. Join us each month to explore and discuss the month's book. Retired English teacher Steve Holland is our book guide. A Novel Idea Book Club meets in the library on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 1:30 pm. Newcomers are always welcome to this lively book group! The June book is Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. Aging Care Series: Long Distance Caregiving If you live an hour or more away from someone who needs care, you are considered a long-distance caregiver. This distance can bring about challenges in managing the care needs of your loved one or supporting the efforts of the local primary caregiver. If you are the nearby caregiver, you may have relatives or friends who ask what can I do to help, and you are unsure what to suggest. Indiana Landmarks (https://www.indianalandmarks.org/) uses insider knowledge to highlight historic places worth a visit, from the quirky to the sublime: small towns, neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, parks, cemeteries, scenic drives, museums -- you get the idea. Join Suzanne Stanis for a look at Indiana’s favorite hidden gems, from the shell-covered St. Anne Chapel at St. Mary-of-the-Woods in Terre Haute to Evansville’s 9 ½ foot tall Vulcan statue. Suzanne Stanis is the Vice President of Education for Indiana Landmarks. She has a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College and a Master of Library Science from Indiana University. Suzanne creates continuing education courses, workshops, and children’s camps. She also supervises Indiana Landmarks’ heritage tourism divisions in Indianapolis; French Lick; West Baden Springs; and Samara, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in West Lafayette. During her 30-plus years with Indiana Landmarks, she has researched and nominated over fifteen buildings and neighborhoods to the National Register of Historic Places.
