The Batesville Memorial Public Library (BMPL) Arts & Innovation Hub invites Southeastern Indiana creatives to serve as our Maker-in-Residence for a 12-week period.  The Arts & Innovation Hub is an arts & entrepreneurial focused makerspace designed to provide broader access to creative tools, technology, resources, educational opportunities, and collaborative spaces for individuals, entrepreneurs, artists, students, and organizations throughout our region.  We want to help create opportunities for artists, makers, and creative professionals of all kinds to share their knowledge, skills, and expertise with our community. Our goal is to help patrons discover and build their own creativity by providing access to new and exciting equipment, technologies, and hands-on experiences.  For our first residency we are seeking an expert/recording artist/podcaster who would help us promote the Create Recording Studio and teach others about the medium you love.

The Maker-in-Residence will commit approximately 72–96 hours over the 12-week residency, including public programming, instruction, studio/office hours, preparation, and creation of training materials.

Develop and lead 6–8 hands-on classes or workshops for the community. Classes should introduce participants to the maker’s area of expertise and, when appropriate, incorporate equipment and resources available in the Arts & Innovation Hub.

Provide scheduled one-on-one instruction sessions to help individuals develop skills, explore creative projects, and learn how to use relevant equipment or technology.

Offer designated drop-in office/studio hours where community members can stop by, ask questions, observe the creative process, receive guidance, or discuss potential projects.

Create a collection of short instructional training videos that demonstrate techniques, equipment, or creative processes. These videos will serve as an ongoing resource for future Create Studio users.

The selected Maker-in-Residence will receive a $2,500 stipend for successfully completing the 12-week residency and fulfilling the outlined program expectations.

Artist Statement of Intent & Purpose: Why are you interested in the residency? What unique skills, perspectives, or qualities will you bring to the program? Why will our patrons be interested in you, your artistic process and your work?

Resume: Please provide a current resume highlighting your relevant artistic, professional, teaching, and community engagement experience.

Bio: Please include a brief maker biography that introduces your background, creative practices or processes, and areas of expertise.

Samples of work (No more than 6)

Teaching Proposal: Please describe how you would engage with our patrons during the residency. What will you do during the 6-8 hours per week you are required to engage our patrons? What teaching plan do you have? Will you offer classes? Workshops? Drop-in activities? Open studio time? Give us a specific idea of what you will offer to patrons.

Other Commitments: Please share any other teaching, exhibit, fair, festival or other commitments that may overlap with the residency period. This will help us understand your availability and plan the residency schedule collaboratively.
