Aging Care Series: Effective Communication Strategies When Dealing with Dementia Communication is more than just talking and listening — it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, and body language. As the disease progresses, individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias lose the ability to use words, but families can find new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication changes when someone is living with Alzheimer’s, learn how to interpret the verbal and behavioral communication, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. These flower pomanders offer versatile display options, whether suspended, nestled on a stand, featured in a centerpiece, or even grasped by a handle. Pomander balls trace their origins to medieval times when personal perfumes were necessary without deodorants and modern toothpaste. Concerns about odors causing illness led people to carry satchels filled with fragrant herbs, spices, and flowers. Those with limited resources relied on garden-grown treasures like rosemary, mint, lavender, or roses, while those more affluent indulged in adding exotic spices. Over time, these aromatic satchels transitioned from personal accessories to household accents. Those with means adorned their homes with bowls or sachets of these delightful scents, transforming their living spaces into fragrant havens. This is a FREE BMPL Program. Join us in creating one. Join us for a hands-on crafting experience where you'll create your own stunning fused glass garden stake! No prior experience is necessary. Our expert instructor, Mary Burk of She Shed Glass Studio, will guide you step-by-step through glass fusing. Using specially selected glass pieces, you'll design and assemble a unique 3x3 garden stake that will add a touch of elegance to any garden or patio. This class will last approximately 90 minutes.  *Please be advised that at the end of the class, your masterpiece will not be immediately available to take home. You must return to the library the following week to collect your finished project. This is a NO cost program. PLEASE SIGN UP BELOW FOR THIS PROGRAM. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. The Remember When Story Time is a gathering of adults that are willing to tell an interesting story or listen to others tell stories in a casual setting here at BMPL.
