Felting is one of the oldest forms of textile arts. Needle felting is begun by rolling a small amount of wool and stabbing it with the needle. Get Outdoors Around the World Challenge! This month's country is ENGLAND! Come play and enjoy the outdoors! Participants will meet at Liberty Park. We will be playing a few English playground games. For example: Sleeping Lions (The lions lie down in a row and pretend to sleep, while the hunter creeps around trying to encourage the lions to move or giggle.) Stuck in the Mud (A group game to get your children running about in the fresh air.) What's the time Mr. Wolf (Mr Wolf. If Mr Wolf shouts “It’s Dinner Time!” he or she chases the players back to the starting point.) The Hula Hoop game ( twist, turn, bend, and solve problems.) WE WILL USE your email for updates & possible changes due to weather. Reap the benefits of outdoor play with Batesville Library’s Get Outdoors Around the WORLD challenge. This program is designed to give your family ideas to get outdoors more. There will be MONTHLY PROGRAMS/CHALLENGES with the focus on what other Countries do “outdoors” to have fun. After REGISTERING your family below you will receive a cinch sack, journal, tracker sheet and PASSPORT at the program if you have not received your just ask. You can join anytime throughout the year. Passports will be stamped anytime at the library. At each program participants will get a “Country” with a list of outdoor tasks to complete. Once ALL the tasks are complete for that Country, bring your sheet and Passport into the library to get stamped and pick up your small prize. **By registering, you will receive a few emails listing other outdoor events around the area from local parks and other community groups. Challenge runs from JANUARY 1 to December 1, 2025. We will have a special gathering at the END of the challenge for all who try to complete the challenge. The Ripley County Reads Author Fair is an opportunity for the public to meet with 25+ regional authors, ask questions about their books and the writing process, and purchase their books. This year's author is Kenneth Woods, AKA “KennyFresh,” a spoken word artist, writer, poet, and published author. He has performed in the Midwest as well as in various states throughout the U.S. His well traveled experience as a child, Hawaii born with naval parents, influenced his ability to adapt, refocus, and reconnect. Meet and Greet with the regional authors at the library from 10:30 - 12:30pm. STORYTIME with Gena Stonefield and her DOG Wenli at 11:00am. Following the fair at 1:15pm we will host a FREE Writer's Critique Workshop. What is a Writer's Critique Workshop? In a writer's critique group, members typically gather to share their works-in-progress with peers for constructive feedback. Each writer takes turns presenting their piece, while others listen, noting strengths and areas for improvement. Discussions focus on elements like plot, character development, writing style, and overall impact. Author Gena Stonefield, Children's Book Author, will read her NEW book: Charlie's Service Dog Tail "Charlie's Service Dog Tail shares the heartwarming story of Charlie, a puppy training to become a service dog for his owner, Brooke. This touching tale highlights their unique bond and service dogs' important role in everyday life." ABOUT GENA: Gena has been associated with Circle Tail, Inc. since 2019 and Pet Partners of Greater Cincinnati since 2022. Alongside her loyal companion, Wenli, they represent Circle Tail, Inc. as an Ambassador Team and Pet Partners of Greater Cincinnati as a Therapy Team. With a lifelong passion for animals, Gena is dedicated to educating both children and adults about the vital roles and functions of service and therapy dogs ABOUT WENLI: Wenli is a 5-year-old Labrador Retriever who spent two years in Circle Tail, Inc.’s service dog training program. While she showed strong potential, her love of people and socialization led to a career change. Gena adopted her and she works as a therapy dog, a role that suits her sweet and friendly nature and allows her to connect with others meaningfully. |
