    The Secrets & Surprises in A Christmas Carol is a holiday event. In this one-hour presentation, hear the story's origins and background, how it impacted how Christmas is celebrated today, and some "insider" information. For example, did you know Tiny Tim's name was initially planned to be Little Dick? Join retired English Professor Ron Nicholas as he shares background on the author, tells some amusing stories, and does some dramatic readings. A door prize drawing for two tickets to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s performance of A Christmas Carol will be held. Thank you to a thoughtful patron for this donation. No registration required

  • Traveling Planetarium at BMPL

    What is a planetarium? The Drake Planetarium & Science Center’s Traveling Explorer Show comes directly to you. This program is the perfect way to provide you and your family with a truly immersive experience by presenting with sights and sounds at every angle.  Drake Planetarium & Science Center will have their state-of-the-art, inflatable Explorer Dome at BMPL. Our Drake Planetarium instructors are trained and endorsed by NASA Glenn Research Center for Education Department. They will be speaking about Eclipses, Tides, & Our Moon during the presentation to coincide with the solar eclipse happening on April 8th. The Explorer Dome provides the perfect atmosphere for teaching and lively discussions that support learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. You bring the thirst for knowledge and we’ll give you outstanding instruction and a valuable experience. We recommend grades 1st through Adult with the presentation that will be provided. Brought to you by: The Joan and John W. Hillenbrand VISION Fund for Innovation, Batesville Memorial Public Library, Genesis Pathways to Success & Drake Planetarium & Science Center. PLEASE NOTE: Choose a time slot that works for you or your family below and register YOUR LAST NAME AND HOW MANY WILL BE ENTERING THE PLANETARIUM. PLEASE SIGN UP EACH PERSON IN YOUR PARTY THAT WOULD LIKE TO ENTER THE PLANETARIUM. Indiana Humanities’ One State / One Story program invites Hoosiers to engage deeply with a book as part of a statewide conversation tied to our current theme. BOOK: All That She Carried by Tiya Miles Underground Railroad FREE Bus Tour: The Underground Railroad is part of the Southeast Indiana Trails to Freedom. This Bus Tour will highlight 5 trails in Ripley county. This FREE guided 2 hour tour will start in Versailles at the Ripley County Tourism Office and feature places & activities of the Underground Railroad. Registration Required. Snacks will be provided. Must be 13+ or older. There are 2 dates to choose from: Thursday, September 5 or Saturday, September 7. You MUST register for this tour from the link below. This is open to 25 people per tour.     During retirement, Ripley County resident Carl Moore started collecting coins. He is now sharing his passion with others. His main interest in coins is as they relate to historical events. During this session he will share information about early US coins to the present day. This program is geared towards Tween/Teens and Adults. Everyone who attends will receive a wheat penny and be entered in a drawing to win another coin. Everyone in attendance will also be entered into a seasonal drawing for a 1921 Morgan silver dollar.     Want to help us decorate for Summer Reading?  Sign up below to paint the outside of our library windows!  This year’s theme is Color Our World. The possibilities are endless. We will supply the paint and brushes. YOU MUST STOP BY THE LIBRARY FOR A PLANNING SHEET PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM DATE – OR – you can sketch out your idea on white computer paper. You must have something drawn to show us for approval before you begin painting. We will have a 3ft x 3 ft square outlined with painters tape. That will be your work area! You only have 1 hour for your allotted time slot so PLEASE really think about what it is you would like to paint. We will be here to help as well. Your work will be displayed all summer!  This program is for children in 3rd to 12th grade and registration is required.  PLEASE CHOOSE WHICH TIME SLOT YOU WOULD LIKE AND COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION FORM BELOW.
