Summer Reading Begins
BMPL’s Summer Reading Program will start June 1 – July 19! Our Summer Reading Program is a fun reading challenge for readers of all ages, with or without a library card! To participate, download or log in to the Beanstack app using your phone or a web browser. Designed to inspire a love of daily reading, log each day you read—NO book titles needed and NO tracking your minutes. Whether it’s 20 minutes or an hour, every day counts. Read to yourself or someone else it counts! Physical books, ebooks, audiobooks, braille, or live reading from an author, it counts! Main goal: Have FUN! Felting is one of the oldest forms of textile arts. Needle felting begins by rolling a small amount of wool and stabbing it with a needle. It is a quick hobby to learn, and many find it stress-relieving. Get ready for Independence day by creating a Patriotic Needle Felted Design with Hoop Frame! The Ukulele Club meets in the (Activity Lab located in the children's area) of the library every 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month, from 6:30 - 7:30pm. Come and create a summer themed tumbler cup using the Cricut machine and Mug Heat Press. We will explore how to develop a design using the Cricut machine and then adhere a unique summer pattern to a tumbler cup. Each participant will walk away with their own personalized summer tumbler. Register for this in-person class to become a Certified User of the 3D Printers in the Innovation Studio. Completion of this training is needed to use any of the four 3D printers at the Arts and Innovation Hub. Registration is required Ages 12 to 14 may register for a learner’s permit certification, but also require an adult aged 18+ to be certified and accompany the minor while using the 3d printers. Summer Concert Series: Rusty Bladen Opening Act: Lilly Reding (Local) at 5:30pm Rusty’s show is a high-energy, freewheeling tour-de-force of Bladen originals, rock and roll, country-rock covers, and an evening that turns into a party. Bladen has performed at festivals and clubs throughout Indiana and the Midwest, captivating the crowd with his performance, his band, and plenty of audience participation. Rusty has toured in Ireland, is a summer festival favorite, and his music has been featured in a major studio film. BMPL's outside space is DORA approved. Walk to your favorite bar in town to grab a dink in the DORA APPROVED CUP and head over to listen to the Concert. A Volksmarch (German for "people's walk") is a non-competitive, recreational walk or hike through scenic or historic areas, focusing on fitness, fun, and camaraderie; participants follow marked trails, get cards stamped at checkpoints, and enjoy nature, local culture, and sometimes refreshments. Come join us the last Tuesday of each month! This month we will meet at the parking lot across from Weigels Funeral Home for a Batesville (History Walk). ALL AGES WELCOME Registration is REQUIRED All Children MUST be accompanied by an Adult Participants must be able to stay in between the two BMPL Guides while walking and must be able to follow all instructions while visiting special locations. Enjoy the fresh air, get active, and have fun with others while learning something new!
