DESCRIPTION:Join retired English Professor Ron Nicholas as he shares background\, tells some amusing stories\, and does some dramatic readings of some beloved Christmas poems\, “A Visit from Saint Nick”\, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”\, and “I Heard the Bells” and dig into their backstories and little-known secrets. For example\, I will look at the raging debate over who really wrote the quintessential Christmas poem attributed to Clement Moore. And did you know the inspiration for the Grinch was the author himself during a period of depression? I will look at the symbolism in “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and “The Holly and the Ivy” and the backstories to some of the most beloved Christmas poems. Also\, I will feature classic poems that became popular Christmas songs\, such as “Good King Wenceslas”\, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”\, and “Come\, All Ye Faithful”. I will mix in a few other wonderful but lesser-known poems such as hilarious “December 26” and “Minstrels” by Wordsworth and\, of course\, unpack “Old Lang Syne” by Robert Burns.  \nHot chocolate and Holiday cookies will be available for added enjoyment. \nNO Registration.

DESCRIPTION:Get Outdoors Around the World Challenge!\nKick Off Event\nReap the benefits of outdoor play with Batesville Library’s Get Outdoors Around the WORLD challenge. This program is designed to give your family ideas to get outdoors more. There will be MONTHLY PROGRAMS/CHALLENGES with the focus on what other Countries do “outdoors” to have fun. \nAfter REGISTERING your family below you will receive a cinch sack\, journal\, tracker sheet and PASSPORT at the first program. Our first program in will January 9\, 2025. We will make a pinecone bird feeder\, have a snack and learn about this year’s challenge.\nPassports will be stamped anytime at the library. At each program participants will get a “Country” with a list of outdoor tasks to complete. Once ALL the tasks are complete for that Country\, bring your sheet and Passport into the library to get stamped and pick up your small prize. \n**By registering\, you will receive a few emails listing other outdoor events around the area from local parks and other community groups. \nChallenge runs from JANUARY 1 to December 1\, 2025. \nWe will have a special gathering at the END of the challenge for all who try to complete the challenge. \nREGISTER below by FAMILY name and # number of family members participating. Each month you will need to register for the next program.
