DESCRIPTION:SEPTEMBER 3rd we will be discussing Almost Home by Joan Bauer\, the book we read in August. Participants will also receive the next book we will be reading for September which is On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson.\n\n\nOn the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness summary from Amazon.com: \n\n\nOnce\, in a cottage above the cliffs on the Dark Sea of Darkness\, there lived three children and their trusty dog\, Nugget. So begins the beloved Wingfeather Saga. Janner Igiby\, his brother\, Tink\, and their disabled sister\, Leeli\, are gifted children as all children are\, loved well by a noble mother and ex-pirate grandfather. But they will need all their gifts and all that they love to survive the evil pursuit of the venomous Fangs of Dang\, who have crossed the dark sea to rule the land with malice. The Igibys hold the secret to the lost legend and jewels of good King Wingfeather of the Shining Isle of Anniera.\n\n\n\nParticipants will read the book for that month and discuss it the following month. There will be a craft or activity to go along with the book. \nThis book club is for grades 3rd – 8th.\nPlease register below to join the CLUB!

This Bus Tour will highlight 5 trails in Ripley county. Indiana Humanities’ One State / One Story program invites Hoosiers to engage deeply with a book as part of a statewide conversation tied to our current theme. \nBOOK: All That She Carried by Tiya Miles\nBook discussion facilitated by Nancy Durham at Osgood Library at 6:00pm. This is a FREE open to the community book discussion and books can be checked out for reading at: Osgood\, Tyson or Batesville Libraries before the discussion to read.\nLocation: Osgood Library\nTime: 6:00pm\n  \nThis program has been made possible through a grant from Indiana Humanities in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities. \nWinner of the 2021 National Book Award in nonfiction\, Miles’ work dives deeply into the history of a single object: a cotton sack embroidered with a few deceptively simple lines: \nMy great grandmother Rose\nmother of Ashley gave her this sack when\nshe was sold at age 9 in South Carolina\nit held a tattered dress 3 handfulls of\npecans a braid of Roses hair. Told her\nIt be filled with my Love always\nshe never saw her again\nAshley is my grandmother \nRuth Middleton \n1921 \nFrom the sparse information contained in these carefully embroidered lines\, Miles opens up the potential worlds of Ashley\, Ruth\, and Rose. Her analysis of the sack reveals what we can and can’t know about the past\, particularly of Black individuals who were brought here by force and enslaved. \nBOOK: All That She Carried by Tiya Miles\nBOOK SUMMARY: In 1850s South Carolina\, an enslaved woman named Rose faced a crisis: the imminent sale of her daughter Ashley. Thinking quickly\, she packed a cotton bag for her with a few items\, and\, soon after\, the nine-year-old girl was separated from her mother and sold. Decades later\, Ashley’s granddaughter Ruth embroidered this family history on the sack in spare\, haunting language. \n  \nComplete information can be found at https://ripleycountyreads.org/osos/
