Local forager, Kristen Giesting, will discuss common wild edible plants and where to find them. From the forests and fields to weedy gardens and landscaping, wild foods surround us in quiet abundance. Wild greens, fruits, and nuts will be discussed. Kristen will also give details on how to get started in foraging, as well as book suggestions and resources for further learning.
About Kristen Giesting:
In spite of her college education in Environmental Science, Kristen’s appreciation for wild plants did not begin until she started foraging in early 2014. Learning this skill opened an entirely new way of seeing the world and inspired her to complete a master’s thesis on the topic in 2016. Each year, she continues to learn new plants and preparation techniques by attending classes held by nationally recognized foraging instructors. In 2018, she spent 9 days eating an all-wild diet. Kristen has given introductory foraging lectures and hikes for numerous local groups.
